Kaizen Privacy Policy
Effective date: 18 July 2026 · Applies to the Kaizen web app and the Kaizen mobile apps (Google Play / App Store)
Who we are
Kaizen is a learning app for school students, operated by its developer, Yehia Abdellatif ("we", "us"). For anything in this policy, contact us at yehia.abdellatif01@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Account details you provide when registering: name, email address, school name, mobile number, and an optional avatar (a photo you upload or a cartoon character you build).
- Learning data created as you use the app: XP, streaks, answered questions, scores, badges and progress per subject.
- Parent view data: if a parent uses a child's access code, we store the parent's name, mobile number and optional email alongside that link.
- Crash and error data: when something in the app breaks we record the error message, the screen it happened on, your account email (if signed in) and the browser/device type, solely to fix bugs.
- Push notification token (mobile apps): if you allow notifications, we store your device's push token so we can send you reminders. Declining notifications does not limit the app.
- Advertising identifier (mobile apps): the mobile apps show ads served by Google AdMob. If you grant the iOS tracking permission, AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) to show more relevant ads. If you decline, ads are still shown but are non-personalised. See "Advertising" below.
Outside of the advertising described below, we do not collect location data, contacts, photos beyond the avatar you choose, or any data from your device in the background.
How we use it
- To run the app: save your progress, keep your streak, and restore your account across devices.
- Leaderboards: your display name, XP, streak, league and avatar are visible to other students. Your email, school and mobile number are never shown to other users.
- Parent access: a parent with your access code can view your name, XP, streak and progress (read-only).
- AI explanations: the AI tutor and study reports send the current question text and your recent mistakes to our AI provider to generate an explanation. No account details are included.
- We do not sell or rent your data. The only third-party advertising in Kaizen is the Google AdMob ads described below; we never hand your account details (name, email, school, progress) to advertisers.
Advertising (mobile apps)
The Kaizen mobile apps are free and supported by ads: a full-screen Google AdMob ad may appear after you finish a lesson. The web app shows no ads.
- On iOS, the app first asks for tracking permission (App Tracking Transparency). If you allow it, Google may use your device's advertising identifier to personalise ads and measure their performance across apps.
- If you decline (or on devices where the identifier is unavailable), ads are non-personalised and no cross-app tracking takes place.
- Ad serving is handled by Google under its own privacy policy — see policies.google.com/privacy and how Google uses data in AdMob.
- Kaizen never sends your account details (name, email, school, learning data) to Google or any advertiser.
Third-party services (data processors)
| Service | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication, file storage | All account and learning data |
| Groq | AI-generated explanations | Question text and recent mistakes only |
| Tencent EdgeOne Pages | Hosting / content delivery | Standard web-server logs (IP, request) |
| Google AdMob (mobile apps only) | In-app advertising | Advertising identifier (with your consent on iOS), device information, ad interaction data |
| Apple Push Notification service (iOS app only) | Delivering notifications | Device push token |
Each processor handles data under its own security and privacy commitments. We share data with no one else, unless required by law.
Data security
All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored in Supabase's managed, access-controlled infrastructure. Passwords are hashed by the authentication provider and are never visible to us. Access to production data is limited to the developer.
Local storage on your device
The app stores data on your device (localStorage / IndexedDB / service-worker cache) to work offline and load fast: your session token, cached lessons, recent answers and settings. This stays on your device and is removed when you delete the app or clear its data. The website uses no third-party advertising or analytics cookies; in the mobile apps, Google AdMob may store identifiers on the device for ad serving as described under "Advertising".
Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile and learning data are removed immediately and permanently. Error logs are kept for up to 12 months. Anonymous, aggregated statistics (e.g. how many students answered a question) may be retained.
Account and data deletion
- In the app: Profile → Danger zone → Delete my account. This permanently removes your account, profile, XP, streak and all progress, immediately and irreversibly.
- By email: if you can no longer access the app, email yehia.abdellatif01@gmail.com from your registered address with the subject "Delete my Kaizen account" and we will delete it within 30 days.
- You can also edit your profile details at any time (Profile → Edit profile), or ask us for a copy of your data by email.
Children
Kaizen is designed for school-age students, including children under 13 used with a parent or school's knowledge. We collect only what the app needs to function. The mobile apps show ads via Google AdMob; ads are personalised only where the user has explicitly granted the tracking permission, and are otherwise non-personalised. A parent or guardian can review a child's progress in the app with the child's access code, and can contact us at the address above to review or delete their child's data.
Your rights
Depending on your country you may have rights to access, correct, export or erase your personal data, and to object to or restrict processing. Exercise any of these through the in-app controls above or by emailing us; we respond within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes (for example adding advertising or new data types), we will update this page, change the effective date above, and notify users in the app before the change applies.
